I have had a number of outstanding scientists work for me who I had to learn to expect less from extemporaneously than others. They were people who needed to do scholarship and think before providing answers, but their answers were worth waiting for. Particularly in a high intensity, verbal organization, it is important to listen in different ways to different types of intellects. Of course, that means that you have learn to listen and invest in getting to know the people who work for you.
