Diseases of the kidney are common and are divided into two groups – extrarenal and intrarenal

In this second part of the kidneys, the spigots of the cardiovascular system, diseases of the kidneys are discussed. Diseases of the kidney are common and are divided into two groups – those caused by factors outside (extrarenal) and inside (intrarenal)the kidney. Additionally, since the kidneys filter every drop of blood, anything that can be a problem in the blood can also be a problem for the kidney.

On This Episode We Discuss:

  • How the kidneys help manage blood pressure
  • The juxtaglomerular – measuring blood pressure
  • How the kidney uses hormones to control water resorption
  • Extrarenal causes of kidney disease
  • Intrarenal causes of kidney disease
  • Some of the main drugs used to treat diseases of the kidney
